Same approach as the exterior, same basic style with some updates and tweaks
7/15/10 I have decided to go with a welded-in transmission tunnel. There will be some elements that bolt or screw in so I can have access to change fluids, unbolt the trans from the frame, bleed the clutch, etc., but most of the structure will be welded in. I am cutting the floor pan on the passenger side and will be welding the tunnel directly to the pan on that side, the driver side I think will be welded to the frame to give me a little more clearance for my leg. I think I am going to make the section toward the rear of the car completely removable so I can change shifters if I ever need to and to bolt and unbolt the transmission when I need to. I am also considering how to end the bar coming along the passenger side from the suspension upright, I am thinking about how to tie it into the driveshaft hoop cover. You can also see in this picture some of the racing harness I have installed on the driver side. It's a five point system with welded tabs on the lower three points, the upper two are wrap around belts that attach t the rollbar.

10/07/09 I am still progressing with the interior sheet metal. The loop closest to the transmisson is two thicknesses built up to 1/8" in an attempt to protect my legs in the event my driveshaft ever gives up. The remainder is 1/16" boxed in, this is probably a little overkill but I'm willing to take a weight trade-off for some added safety. Besides some finish welding, the last piece of the puzzle before insulation and carpet is the transmission cover itself, I think I am going to do a fiberglass tunnel. I'll post pictures of the process if I take that route.

08/24/09 Here are some shots of the rear tinwork as of now, I still need to seal in the portion above the fuel cell and have some sort of fuel door. Then it's time for carpet and trim pieces. The portion between the wheel tubs will eventually be filled with a shelf supporting 2 Boston 6" speakers. The next major items are the driveshaft tunnel and then a custom fiberglass transmission cover.

2/8/09 The interior is coming along, I mounted the stock parking brake lever, also mounted up a Hurst 6 speed shift knob, and 12" Grant steering wheel on a Grant Triumph adapter. The wheel is really small compared to the stock, approx. 14" but should make getting in and out easier and let me hit the brakes harder as well. The only drawback is the small size obscures a small portion of the tach and speedo, but it's not too bad.

1/24/09 Despite the cold weather I have been getting some things completed, the dash panels are done, I need to add a glove box or something like that on the passenger side to cover the underdash portion and clean up some wiring as well. The dash accent plates and the lower portion that houses the radio are brushed aluminum that I fabricated, I think they help break up the "blackness" of the panels and give it something extra. Next on the interior (besides the aforementioned glove box will be fabricating a trans tunnel as well as a driveshaft tunnel and then sound insulation and carpet. I will also be changing the steering wheel and shift knob soon as well.

12/18/08 Here is a shot of the wiring mess I have rigged up to get the engine started. The bundle coming out the door is the wiring for the chassis, i.e. lights, etc., that I haven't messed with yet, in this shot you can also see most of the dash and instruments that are coming together.

Stock seats will be retained, shifter of course will be new, a new removable steering wheel will help entry/exit and a custom console should round things out.
08/31/08 - I've been working on my custom carbon fiber dash using the stock dash as a template, I am almost done with it, a few more tweeks and some clear coating and it'll be ready for pics and installation. The next big project is going to be a transmission cover and shifter to hopefully keep my reach/throws stock-ish. Check back soon for dash pics, you won't be disappointed.
